2023 WA Rural Health Excellence Awards:
Rural Health West and WA Country Health Service are delighted to announce the second finalist for the GP of the Year Award
Dr Kylie Sterry has spent her life living and working in regional WA. She grew up in Newman and completed her rural GP training in Collie. In 2008 Kylie moved to Kalgoorlie, where she went on to become the lead medical coordinator for The Rural Clinical School of WA.
Ten years ago, Kylie became practice principal of Plaza Medical Centre, with the aim of providing a city quality medical service to the Goldfields. The centre, which she manages with her husband, currently employs four GPs, three GP registrars and mentors many medical students on rotation.
Kylie completed her Masters in Women’s Health in 2015 and Reproductive Health in 2019. During that time, she travelled to Uganda, Africa, as part of a pilot program, teaching nurses to do colposcopies and cervical biopsies within their local communities.

A GP Obstetrician, Kylie has built partnerships with Perth-based fertility clinics, so she can conduct fertility-tracking ultrasounds on patients in Kalgoorlie enabling them to access this vital care closer to home.
Kylie is an advocate and example of the life-changing impact a long-term, viable GP Obstetrician can have for people living in regional Western Australia.

2022 - Plaza Turned 50:
This year Plaza Medical Centre turned 50 years old!
Plaza Medical celebrated 50 years of service to the Kalgoorlie-Boulder community with members of the Goldfields medical and business community.
Our Hannan Street practice was founded by Dr Graeme Linfoot and Dr Graeme Crisp in July 1972, before Dr Richard Austin took ownership of the practice in 1982, a role his retained for 30 years. From there, Dr Kylie Sterry took over and expanded the practice even more to what you know it to be today!

2018 & 2020 - Plaza Medical Expansion:
In April 2018 we opened our new expanded premises.
With a DOUBLE in consulting rooms and a significant expansion to our treatment area we aim to offer more to our patients.
Partially funded by a Federal Government Grant Plaza's expansion allows for ;
- more training opportunities for Medical Students
- more training opportunities for Doctors training to be General Practitioners
- an expansion in allied health services - including a psychologist, a dietician, a diabetics educator and a physiotherapist
- more patient centered education through our dedicated patient education room
- more visiting specialist services and procedures onsite with expansion of procedural rooms and facilities
At Plaza Medical we aim to provide a patient centered whole person approach to your health care. This expansion will see us be able to provide more onsite services to you and your family.
In 2020 we also added the Goldfields Respiratory Clinic into the back of our clinic.
We had already expanded our clinic and were lucky enough to re-arrange the back end to accommodate the Government Funded clinic.
This meant we were able to see patients who have any respiratory symptoms in a safe and clean environment.
